Kuala Terengganu – City of Mosques

Kuala Terengganu, or KT, is the royal capital of Terengganu State on the East Coast of Malaysia. The state of Terengganu is known for its high majority of muslims in the population and hence you will see a large number of mosques in this region. It is a moderately conservative state and not so open as for example Kuala Lumpur is, but as long as you wear suitable clothes in public areas, do not exhibit public shows of affection, such as holding hands and not drinking alcohol openly, then there is not a problem. To enter mosques the ladies are required to wear a head covering.

Masjid Tengku Tengah Zaharah (Floating Mosque)

The Tengku Tengah Zaharah Mosque or the Floating Mosque is the first real floating mosque in Malaysia. It is situated in Kuala Ibai Lagoon near the estuary of Kuala Ibai River, 4 km from Kuala Terengganu Town. Construction began in 1993 and finished in 1995.

Masjid Kristal

The Crystal Mosque or Masjid Kristal is a mosque in Kuala Terengganu and is a grand structure made of steel, glass and crystal. The mosque is located at the Islamic Heritage Park on the island of Wan Man.

Taman Monumen

Very close to Masjid Krystal is Taman Monumen or Monument Park which presents 22 Islamic monuments from 21 countries from all over the world across Asian, European and African continents. There are two monuments which come from the same country; the Al-Haram and Nabawi Mosque. All monuments, scaled from between 1:1.7 to 1:22 compared to the original size, are the important landmarks which marked the arrival, development and glory of Islam in that particular countries.
