The LRT3 line opened up about 2 months ago offering a direct light rail link between Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya and Klang with links to the Kelana Jaya LRT line at Subang and the Kajang MRT line at Bandar Utama.
A short 5 minute walk from my house took me to the LRT Station which is located close to the existing MRT Station at Bandar Utama. The station is spacious and everything is still brand new and clean. The trip from Bandar Utama (SA01) to Jambatan Kota (SA20) took approximately 55 minutes passing through numerous stations such as Subang and Shah Alam and even through a long tunnel shortly after the Shah Alam station. Cost of the trip was RM3.50 which is great value considering the distance covered.
After disembarking at Jambatan Kota there was a short walk to the Klang Bridge over the Klang River and then we were in the main old town of Klang. Wandering around the small streets and alleys there were numerous cafes and restaurants, lots of Indian shops selling jewellery, bangles and silk saris. On many of the walls and houses there were some colourful murals with one gable end of a shophouse having an impressive display of colourful crows, known as the Flying Crow Street Art.
We returned to our favourite banana leaf restaurant, Bayleaf Kitchen, for an excellent lunch before heading back to the station for our return trip to Bandar Utama.
With this efficient LRT3 train service this brings Klang within easy reach and avoiding any traffic jam issues if you feel like a short trip out to sample the great local food such as bak kut teh, Hokkien mee, Hainanese food or Indian banana leaf, visit the impressive Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery or enjoy the colourful street art.
