The Gap is the road junction at the base of Fraser’s Hill in Malaysia just as you turn off the road from Kuala Kubu Bharu to take the small 8km winding road up to the top of Fraser’s Hill. Just before this junction sits the Gap Guesthouse which is an old colonial style mansion where travellers would stop to stay or just for a drink and some food prior to heading up the hill.
I visited the Gap Guesthouse back in 1992 when I took my parents on a road trip around Malaysia and we stopped for some lunch here prior to heading up Fraser’s Hill.
Sadly the Gap Guesthouse has now been abandoned for some time and is very badly dilapidated and run down as can be clearly seen in the comparison photos. The pathways and stairs up to the house are all overgrown with bushes and trees and the inside of the house has been totally stripped and only inhabited by nesting birds …. and no doubt bats also. Such a shame for a beautiful old heritage building.
Just opposite the Gap Guesthouse is an old suspension bridge which is also totally overgrown and run down – I wouldn’t dare to try and cross it!
