New E-Book Published – A Jaunt in Gironde

Now published on Amazon my latest travel/photography e-book A Jaunt in Gironde – A photographic journal of a trip to Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, Blaye and Arcachon in Gironde, France.

The Bordeaux wine region in Gironde Department, France offers an interesting area to visit especially if you are a wine lover with some of the best vineyards in France.

We joined some friends for a short trip in the Gironde area commencing with a few days staying in a secluded country gite on the outskirts of Saint-Émilion and in the middle of vineyards. Arriving to the property the owners kindly left us a welcome gift of a beautiful fruit pie and wine – a wonderful way to start the trip. The area was surrounded by vineyards as far as the eye could see and it seemed that every possible piece of land was dedicated to grape growing.

Saint-Émilion was a fascinating historical city to explore with old churches, small cobblestone streets and a wonderful selection of restaurants, cafes and bars to eat and drink at. Of course there was wine everywhere and there were many specialist shops selling a vast selection of wines covering all budgets.

The Citadelle de Blaye was a worthwhile visit with ancient Gothic city walls, a fort and some wonderful old architecture to admire.

Bordeaux is the main city of the region and we stayed there for a few days to explore the city and to visit some outlying areas.

Around Bordeaux there was an incredible number of wine growing areas and we spent a whole day visiting some of these famous wine chateaux and of course sampling their products.

West of Bordeaux on the Arcachon Bay lies the town of Arcachon and just south of the town on the Atlantic west coast is the most incredible and enormous sand dune known as the Dune de Pilat.

This was a short visit but a most rewarding trip with interesting towns and cities to explore and some great food and wine to sample. This book with its selection of images, annotated text and maps should hopefully inspire you to visit this fascinating region of France.
