In June 2015 during a trip back to UK we stayed in Stow-on-the-Wold in the Cotswolds. We took a trip to visit the other beautiful Cotswold village of Bourton-on-the-Water.
Bourton-on-the-Water is a village in the rural Cotswolds area of south central England. Straddling the River Windrush, it’s known for its low bridges and traditional stone houses. The Cotswold Motoring Museum features vintage cars and a toy collection. Birdland is home to species including parrots, owls and king penguins, plus life-size model dinosaurs. The Model Village is a 1930s scale replica of the village.
Bourton on the Water is a charming English village, known as the Venice of the Cotwolds. Situated on the River Windrush, it’s ideal for a day out or holiday.
The village of Bourton-on-the-Water is known for its picturesque High Street, flanked by long wide greens and the River Windrush that runs through them. The river is crossed by five low, arched stone bridges. They were built between 1654 and 1953, leading to the moniker of “Venice of the Cotswolds”.
The village often has more visitors than residents during peak times of the tourist season. Some 300,000 visitors arrive each year as compared to under 3,500 permanent residents.
