Buddha Eden Garden, Portugal

Bacalhôa Buddha Eden is situated at Quinta dos Loridos about 15 minutes from Óbidos or one hour from Lisbon in Portugal and is Europe’s largest Asian garden. Here you can see a huge collection of Buddhist statues in the 86 acres of the garden. The garden was created by Portuguese businessman Joe Berardo in 2001 after he was shocked at the destruction of the Buddhist statues in Afghanistan by the Taliban. He wanted to create a garden of peace and meditation in Portugal and was not done for any religious reasons.

As well as all the Buddhist statues there are beautiful pagodas and 600 hand-painted terracotta statues as well as a Japanese-style lake with fish and sculpted dragons rising out of the water. Around the garden you can also see numerous contemporary art pieces from renowned international artists.
