The Douro Valley in North Portugal is a famous wine growing area and one of the best ways to appreciate it (apart from drinking the wine!!) is to take a boat cruise up the river. At the small riverside town of Pinhão we visited the Quinta da Roêda Croft Port vineyard and had the opportunity to hear about the wine making process and sample many of the wines. After this we took a boat cruise up the river getting magnificent views of the vineyards on the steep valley slopes on either side of the river.
