During a visit to Lenggong Valley in Perak, Malaysia we had the opportunity to experience the real kampung lifestyle and had lunch served in a small wooden pergola sitting in the middle of the jungle at Kampung Chepor. All the food was grown in the areas around the kampung then prepared and served to us in small plates as we sat cross legged on the small shady platform. It was wonderful to eat the wide variety of tastes and textures of the food, all freshly prepared by the local family.
Around the kampung were a number of small bee hives featuring the local small non-stinging honey bees which made rather bizarre looking nests.
Masjid Raja Kampung Chepor
The small wooden mosque in Kampung Chepor is one of the oldest mosques in Malaysia and it was interesting to see the inside of this small building. The name Masjid Raja means King’s Mosque and apparently was built on the command of the first Sultan of Perak, Sultan Muzaffar Syah (1528-1549)
Telaga Biru Kampung Chepor
Telaga Biru or Blue Well is situated close to Kampung Chepor and is a small well with surprisingly blue coloured water. Looking inside the well you can see bubbles of air bubbling up from below.
