This book compiles photographs from two separate trips to northern Thailand visiting the cities of Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai. Northern Thailand is a fascinating region to explore giving you the opportunity to see rural life which is very much in contrast to the large cities such as Bangkok in the south.
Chiang Rai is the most northerly city in Thailand and is a very small city with a population of only 200,000. Around the city there are many opportunities to explore the scenic countryside and enjoy activities such as river boat trips, whitewater rafting, elephant trekking, visiting waterfalls, tea plantations and hot water spas. You can also take a tour to a traditional hill tribe village to see how these traditional tribes live in their simple village. From Chiang Rai it is easy to drive north east to the Golden Triangle area where you can get views over neighbouring countries of Laos and Myanmar at the viewpoint.
Chiang Mai is another relatively small city with an ancient, walled historical centre with a large number of temples you can visit. It’s easy to walk around the small city to see all the main sights and there are always many cafes and restaurants to stop and try all the delightful local cuisines.
This book will give you a brief overview of these two interesting places and the many photographs, annotated text and maps will perhaps inspire you to visit this northern region of Thailand to see for yourself.
