Lower Largo, Fife

Lower Largo in Fife Scotland is a quaint seaside village overlooking the Firth of Forth. It is an interesting village to walk through with interesting history, some very nice art pieces by Alan Faulds and some beautifully decorated houses.

Alan Faulds is a local artist who specialises in colourful arty gates which can be seen outside his cottage and other locations around the village. A small garden in front of his cottage has a unique sculpture called “Malagan”. Made from local driftwood, painted oak and copper the piece has Mexican, Hindu, Baltic, Indian and Greek influences and took more than a year to complete.

Around the village you can see wonderfully decorated houses with colourful window boxes and other unique decorative items.

This cottage in Lower Largo, Fife is where Andrew Selkirk lived. He was the inspiration for Daniel Defoe’s famous book about Robinson Crusoe after being marooned on a South Pacific island for over 4 years.

The Crusoe Hotel is now sadly closed and up for sale which is a pity as it was strategically located at the small harbour mouth and served good food and drinks previously.

Lower Largo sits on the Fife Coastal Path and from here you can walk westwards to Lundin Links and Leven or eastwards towards Elie.
