Along with my two sons I made a trip to Taman Negara in 1994. We drove to Kuala Tembeling and then took a long 2.5 hr boat up the Tembeling River to the park headquarters at Kuala Tahan. From here we trekked into the jungle to spend one night camping.
These photos were captured on a Canon film camera and the negatives subsequently scanned and then post processed in Capture One Pro. The image quality in many cases is poor as many of the negatives were damaged by heat and humidity over time.

Prior to heading out into the jungle on our trek we did the canopy walk which was an exciting experience. The trek into the jungle took us over small log bridges and across rivers. The jungle was dense and there was nobody else around …. only the sounds of animals moving around the undergrowth.

The trail we took was the start of the long trail to Gunung Tahan which is a long 5-7 days return hike.

We eventually came to the small fishing lodge called Lata Berkoh where we decided to stay for the night. There was a beautiful deep pool closeby where we could swim and bathe. When we went in for our evening dip we were joined by a very large water monitor lizard (with as long purple tongue!) which was a little disconcerting.

We set up our tent but my two sons decided to sleep in the fishing lodge which I’m sure was not that comfortable. It was eerie to hear all the animal sounds in the dark jungle as we stayed at this remote location.

We stayed at one of the lodges at the Park Headquarters at Kuala Tahan on our return before taking the boat back down to the river to where our car was parked.
