Canadian Rockies Road Trip – British Columbia Wildlife Park, Kamloops

We took a trip out to the British Columbia Wildlife Park just east of Kamloops – this would at least give us the opportunity to see some wild animals like the bear which we had not seen on our travels to date.

The British Columbia Wildlife Park is a 106-acre zoo located in Kamloops, British Columbia. The British Columbia Wildlife Park is an accredited member of the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The BC Wildlife Park is a non-profit society dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of animals, with over 60% of the Park’s animals being rescued.

Grizzly Bear

We watched 2 grizzly bears on their enclosure for some time and it was interesting to see these very large bears so close.

Birds of Prey

In the bird enclosure there were quite a few injured birds that had been taken in with lost or damaged wings. It was quite sad to see these magnificent birds of prey in this environment but in reality in the wild they would not survive. In this birds of prey enclosure you could see Burrowing Owl, Long-eared Owl, Red-tailed Hawk, Bald Eagle, Golden Eagle, Barred Owl, Great Gray Owl, and Great Horned Owl.

Canines

The white Arctic wolves were one of the more interesting animals to watch as the roamed around their large open enclosure.

The park had two coyotes that were quite active running around their pen constantly. They came to the park as orphans in 2015.

North American Elk

There were 8 female North American Elk with one large male who had a magnificent set of antlers.

Big Cats

The park has 2 lynx and one bobcat.

There were 2 orphaned cougars in a large pen, one male and one female. Cougars are also called puma or mountain lions.
