Just before arriving at Saskatchewan River Crossing we stopped at a viewpoint giving us a superb panoramic view of the North Saskatchewan River. The light streaming through the clouds over the mountains created a wonderful atmosphere.
The North Saskatchewan River is an arm of the massive Columbia Icefield. This section of the river in Banff National Park flows swiftly past majestic views of the Rocky Mountains. Native people hunted and camped along these shores for thousands of years. This area was a major route for the fur traders in the 19th Century.
