Bordeaux, France

In June 2012 we did a wonderful trip to France visiting the wonderful wine areas of Saint-Emilion and Bordeaux.

Bordeaux, hub of the famed wine-growing region, is a port city on the Garonne River in southwestern France. It’s known for its Gothic Cathédrale Saint-André, 18th- to 19th-century mansions and notable art museums such as the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux. Public gardens line the curving river quays. The grand Place de la Bourse, centered on the Three Graces fountain, overlooks the Miroir d’Eau reflecting pool.

Place de la Bourse

Place de la Bourse is a square in Bordeaux, France and one of the city’s most recognisable sights. Built from 1730 to 1775 along the Garonne River, it was a multi-building development designed by architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel. It is within the historic part of the city that has been recognized on the UNESCO World Heritage List as “an outstanding urban and architectural ensemble” of the 18th century.

Le Petit Commerce

We had a wonderful dinner at Le Petit Commerce Restaurant with lots of specials on the blackboard menu. Of course dinner was accompanied by some wonderful local Bordeaux wine.

Bordeaux Cathedral

Bordeaux Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Andrew and is the seat of the Archbishop of Bordeaux.
