Located in the center of the Mountain Wuyi Scenic Resort, the Tianyou Peak-Taoyuan Cave Scenic Zone covers an area of 9.5 square kilometers.

Although you may not climb Tianyou Peak the walk along the Jiuqu River and the park at the bottom is well worth a visit. The scenery along the riverside is wonderful and crossing the large bridge at the start of the walk you will probably have the opportunity to see people bamboo rafting down the river (We did this the next day so look out for the next post on that).

The trail running along the river passes some rocky areas where there are numerous caves. There is also a small temple off the main trail which is worth a look.

There is an ancient tea grove which is supposedly the exclusive garden of tea bushes for the first emperor of the Yuan Dynasty, Kublai Khan, making the bushes within 700 years old … not so sure about that.

The main peak is a very large slab of rock with very steep sides. There is a trail leading up to the summit which we really didn’t have time to do on our visit.
