Chobe National Park, Botswana

From Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe we took a drive west and over the border to Botswana for a full day trip in Chobe National Park. After arriving at the Cresta Mowana Safari Resort and Spa we boarded a large boat for an incredible cruise down the Chobe River allowing us to see many of the wild animals on the river banks as well as in the water. We watched one older elephant swimming in the river and eating the long strands of water reed. Returning to the Safari Resort we had an excellent buffet lunch then took a land cruiser trip through the park. Here we witnessed large herds of elephants, many giraffe, buffalo, impala and near the end of the drive some lions.

Chobe National Park is located in northern Botswana near the vast, inland Okavango Delta and is known for its massive herds of elephants and Cape buffalo, which converge along the Chobe Riverfront in the dry months. Chobe National Park is Botswana’s first National Park and has one of the largest concentrations of game in Africa. By size, it is the third largest park in the country, after the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and the Gemsbok National Park. The park has a rich and diverse mix of animals with lions, impala, buffalo and hippos inhabiting the woods and lagoons around Linyanti Marsh. The floodable grasslands of the Savuti Marsh attract numerous bird species, plus migrating zebras.
