The Clachan in Drymen, Scotland claims to be the oldest pub in Scotland having been licensed since 1734. The Clachan is a family run business and is owned by Gordon and Elaine Strang who offer a great place with excellent pub food, a fine selection of cask ales and a wonderful selection of whiskies.
Interestingly there is a Rob Roy connection as one of the first licensee of the pub was a Mistress Gow, one of Rob Roy’s sisters. Now, given that I am related to Rob Roy MacGregor (he was a 12th generation Uncle) I thought I might claim part ownership of The Clachan ….. but refrained from this when I finally paid my bar bill.
