Loch Maree, Scotland

Loch Maree in Wester Ross, Scotland is the 4th largest fresh water loch in Scotland and is 21.7km long and a maximum width of 4km. Within the loch are numerous wooded islands many of which have their own lochans. The largest of these is Eileen Sùbhainn which has a small loch in it and within that there is another small island.

Loch Maree has one of the largest breeding concentrations of black-throated diver and also has an important population of otter. It is a great place to stop as you drive going north or heading south to take in the beauty of this magnificent loch surrounded by some great mountains the most prominent being Slioch.
