We took a 2 week cruise on Holland America’s MS Westerdam ship starting from Yokohama and stopping at Naha and Ishigaki in Okinawa, Hualien and Keelung in Taiwan and Kagoshima, Aburatsu, Kochi, Osaka and Shimizu in Japan before returning to Yokohama.

Our ship arrived into Kagoshima, Japan early morning and the view was spectacular with the smoking volcano of Sakurajima just over the bay.
We headed by taxi out to Sengan-en 仙巌園 park where there were beautiful gardens and hopefully some good views of the Sakurajima volcano. The park was really beautiful with immaculate gardens and some great views of Sakurajima.
After walking around the gardens we stopped at the restaurant in the park and had a really excellent lunch with a stunning view out over the water to Sakurajima.
Returning to the port where the ship was docked we took a brief walk around the headland for our last view of Sakurajima before departing.
