Every time I have driven through Glencoe it has been raining with low clouds and mist and the place always seemed so dark and depressing. On a recent trip back to Scotland I once again drove through this glen but this time the weather was spectacular. This showed the glen now in all its glory and at last I could appreciate the sheer beauty of this iconic glen.

Glencoe is very popular with hillwalkers and mountaineers with a number of rugged peaks, Buachaille Etive Beag, the Three Sisters(Stob Coire Sgreamhach, Stob Coire nan Lochan and Aonach Dubh) and the Eaonach Eagach ridge on the north side.

The main settlement is the village of Glencoe at the foot of the glen.

The massacre of Glencoe occured here on 13th February 1692 in the aftermath of the Jacobite uprising of 1689 with 38 men of the Clan MacDonald of Glencoe killed by government forces.
