Coshieville House

A few years ago I went through a large scanning project of all the old photographs from my family that had been passed down to me. This collection of old photos had a wealth of images with many of my past relatives and from many different locations. In amongst this collection was a photograph of my grandfather and grandmother taken at a hotel from one of their holidays. The hotel in question was the Coshieville Hotel which I found out was just outside Aberfeldy in a small hamlet called Coshieville. The Coshieville Hotel used to be a 300-year-old inn and sat at a strategic junction in Coshieville.

During a recent trip back to Scotland we stayed in Aberfeldy for a few days so it was an ideal opportunity to go and see this hotel and recreate the same photo with me in it. The building has not changed much at all since the photo of the grandparents and the house is now an individual’s home having been a guest house for many years. I am not sure whan the original photo of my grandparents was taken but it is certainly long before I was born. I had an amusing thought as I thought about this and perhaps this could have been a honeymoon for my grandparents and maybe even the exact time my father was conceived!

Below is a comparison of the original photo of my grandparents at the Coshieville Hotel and my version at the exect same spot. My grandparenst are the two on the right, the other lady may well have been the hotel owner.

While viewing the house I noticed two people on the balcony so speaking to them found out that they were the new owners of the house having bought it in the last 2 years. They were in the process of slowly renovating the property and kindly even let us see inside the house and some photos of this are below.

It was eery to think my grandparents stayed in this place and no doubt sat by the old stone fireplace in the main room at some point during their stay.

Next to the house were a number of other houses which had been renovated and these buildings were apparently originally the horse stables used for the original inn.
