I had travelled many times to India on business but never had the opportunity to visit some of the popular tourist locations so I arranged some free time on the back of a business trip to do a circular road trip covering 3 key locations; New Delhi, Jaipur and Agra.
New Delhi is a huge, populous city and has a multitude of historical monuments to visit including the India Gate, Jama Masjid, the Red Fort, the Old Fort, the Lotus Temple and Qutub Minar.
Jaipur is a colourful and interesting city with the fascinating Amber Palace on the outskirts of the city and the nearby Jal Mahal (water palace) in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake. The City Palace in the centre of the city is a very interesting and worthwhile visit as is the astronomical observatory (Jantar Mantar). Also in the middle of the city you can visit the imposing pink-red coloured sandstone facade of the Hawa Mahal palace.
Agra holds one the most popular and iconic monuments in India; the Taj Mahal, which is an awesome sight to behold. Get there early in the morning to get the best light and the quietest period.
