Nostalgic Hawaii 1994 – Honolulu, O’ahu

In 1994 we had a holiday trip to Hawaii and visited Honolulu in O’ahu, The Big Island and then the island of Kauai. For the first part of the holiday we stayed in Honolulu for a couple of days and took the opportunity to visit the beaches and coastline and then attend a traditional luau in the evening to sample some great local food and see traditional dancing.

These photos were captured on a Canon film camera and the negatives subsequently scanned and then post processed in Capture One Pro. The image quality in many cases is poor as many of the negatives were damaged by heat and humidity over time.

We did the obligatory city tour using the trolley bus which gave us a good overview of Honolulu city.

Halona Blowhole

We visited Halona Blowhole and witnessed the explosive power of the waves as they erupted through the hole in the rocks.

Germaine’s Luau

Germaine’s Luau was a traditional luau located on the beach which was a wonderful setting for the dinner and a show. They had roasted a whole pig by burying it in the sand on hot coals and then this was uncovered at dinner time. There was a dancing show and a lot of audience participation which made for an entertaining and amusing evening.
