Taman Tugu Forest Trails

Taman Tugu is a small area of jungle very close to the city centre of Kuala Lumpur. Back in the 1930’s the Taman Tugu site was home to a number of bungalows occupied by British and local officers working for the Department of Agriculture. Many of the residents beautified their gardens with exotic and ornamental planting including palm oil trees imported from West Africa. Some of these trees and plants are still here. The site has now been renovated into a recreational park with laid out forest trails and there has been an extensive amount of tree planting which has been completed. The trails are well marked with informative signs and there are species labels on trees and bushes. The site currently has about 2km of trails in a 66 acre area but there are plans to develop more trails.

Taman Tugu is located to the north of Taman Botani Perdana with Tugu Negara in the south-west, Padang Merbok in the south-east and Bank Negara’s Lanai Kijang to the east of the site. The site is contiguous with Taman Botani Perdana separated only by Jalan Parlimen and will be an expansion of that green space.

The trail paths through the jungle are well laid out and easy to walk. The total area of jungle is relatively small so you can cover the whole area in about 45 mins to 1 hour.
