Canadian Rockies Road Trip – Maligne Canyon, Jasper

We had stayed one night in Hinton which is a small town north east of Jasper. Driving back to Jasper the next day we stopped at the Maligne Canyon.

Maligne Canyon is a slot canyon located in the Jasper National Park near Jasper. Eroded out of the Palliser Formation, the canyon measures over 50 metres (160 ft) deep. Popular for sightseeing and exploration, the area contains waterfalls, underground stream outlets, birds and plant life.

Maligne Canyon is the deepest canyon in Jasper National Park, with a depth of more than 50 metres at certain points. Hikers of all abilities can explore this incredible natural landmark by crossing six bridges built across various points of the canyon. For those looking for a gentle hike, head over the First and Second bridges. The Second Bridge is the highest point of the canyon, standing more than 50 metres above the water.

Venturing further will take you to the Third Bridge, which is the best location to see a spectacular waterfall and makes for the perfect photo opportunity. For those looking for an extended hike, continue all the way to the Sixth Bridge for endless exploration and more spectacular sights.
