In July 2003 we made a trip to Italy starting with a few days in the capital of Rome and then exploring Tuscany. All the images here were made with my original Canon D30 digital camera (the very first digital SLR from Canon) sporting a 3.1 MPixel sensor! It’s still satisfying to be able to reprocess these images with the latest software and get some pretty decent results.

Florence, capital of Italy’s Tuscany region, is home to many masterpieces of Renaissance art and architecture. One of its most iconic sights is the Duomo, a cathedral with a terracotta-tiled dome engineered by Brunelleschi and a bell tower by Giotto. The Galleria dell’Accademia displays Michelangelo’s “David” sculpture. The Uffizi Gallery exhibits Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” and da Vinci’s “Annunciation.”
Ponte Vecchio
The Ponte Vecchio is a medieval stone closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge over the Arno River, in Florence, Italy, noted for still having shops built along it, as was once common. Butchers initially occupied the shops; the present tenants are jewellers, art dealers and souvenir sellers.

Uffizi Gallery
The Uffizi Gallery is a prominent art museum located adjacent to the Piazza della Signoria in the Historic Centre of Florence in the region of Tuscany, Italy.

Il Porcellino is the local Florentine nickname for the bronze fountain of a boar. The fountain figure was sculpted and cast by Baroque master Pietro Tacca shortly before 1634.

Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore

Starting from Ponte Vecchio we did a wonderful walk through the old streets south of the river and up the hill to Forte di Belvedere which would offer some wonderful views overt the city of Florence.
House of Galileo Galilei
This is the house where iconic astronomer & physicist Galileo Galilei was thought to have been born in 1564.
