In June 2013 we went on a Mediterranean cruise departing from Venice to Barcelona. So before boarding the cruise ship we took a road trip around the northern part of Italy starting from Venice and covering Treviso, Vicenza, Verona, Milan, Parma, Bologna, and Ferrara.
The photographs taken during this road trip had been processed but never fully published so I have taken the opportunity to re-process these photos using the latest CaptureOnePro software system. I am always amazed when I go back through my photo catalogue and do some re-processing as I can usually get so much more out of the original RAW images using the most up to date software as well as my much improved processing workflow.

Bologna is the lively, historic capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, in northern Italy. Its Piazza Maggiore is a sprawling plaza lined with arched colonnades, cafes and medieval and Renaissance structures such as City Hall, the Fountain of Neptune and the Basilica di San Petronio. Among the city’s many medieval towers are the Two Towers, leaning Asinelli and Garisenda.

One of the unique features in the city of Bologna are the covered walkways or porticos which are very beautifully designed as well as being practical.

Bologna is renowned for its culinary tradition. It has baptised the famous Bolognese sauce, a meat-based pasta sauce that in Italy is called ragù and is substantially different from the variety found worldwide; moreover, in Bologna the sauce is used only as a dressing fortagliatelle, serving it with spaghetti being considered odd.

Walking through the small streets there were numerous markets selling large varieties of local produce as well as the famous prosciutto.
