In the small border town of Jedburgh in Scotland sits the historic 16th century towerhouse where Queen Mary stayed in 1566 during an official tour. It was during this visit that she visited her secret lover, the Earl of Bothwell, at Hermitage Castle.
A visitor centre now portrays the poignant story of the Queen’s tragic life with thought provoking interpretation and includes her death mask, said to have been taken from her decapitated body at Fotheringay Castle.
The rooms in Mary Queen of Scots House contain tapestries, oil paintings, furniture, arms and armour and some of Mary’s possessions, arranged in narrative sections
Outside the tower house are beautiful gardens with numerous pear trees from where you can get a great view of the picturesque tower.
