Part of the Fife Coastal Path towards St. Andrews runs right past the Kingsbarns Golf Links so we took a walk one afternoon to enjoy the wonderful sea views and of course a chance to get a close look at the golf links.
Golf has been played on the links here since 1793 until 1850 at which point the local farmer decided to plough up the links as the land was more valuable as farming land than for use as a golf course. In 1922 Willie Auchterlonie laid out a 9 hole golf course on this area and the Kingsbarns Golf Society was formed. At the onset of World War II the area was mined so there was no more golf played!
Golf was resurrected on Kingsbarns Links at the dawning of the 21st Century. The only Scottish course to be built on links land in over 70 years and with its seaside setting, Kingsbarns joined the great old courses of nearby St Andrews and Carnoustie, bringing with it a new dimension to the traditional Scottish game.
The course looks truly incredible so this will definately be on my golf course bucket list during forthcoming visits to my homeland.
