Glass bridges and glass walkways seem to be the latest craze in China. The Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge in Hunan, China is the world’s highest and longest glass bridge. Also in Zhangjiajie, a 100-meter-long glass skywalk, stretching around a cliff on the park’s Tianmen Mountain.
The Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge glass bridge is 430 m long and spans the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon at a height of around 300m. It was opened in 20th August 2016 but closed only 13 days after this for some improvements to the structure after the demand of visitors far outweighed the capacity with some 80,000 visitors trying to visit every day.
The bridge has witnessed record crowds visiting this spectacular site and the tickets are now limited daily to only 8,000 with only 800 allowed on the bridge at one time. We were lucky to manage to get tickets for a visit early in the morning but unfortunately the misty conditions prevented us from enjoying the spectacular vista over the canyon. It was fun however to watch the local Chinese tourists and their various antics on the glass bridge.
You are not allowed to carry bags, backpacks or use cameras on the bridge; you were only allowed your mobile phone, so these photos were limited to iPhone photos.
