To celebrate Xmas and New Year at the end of 2024 we took a short 13 day cruise on Holland America’s ms Noordam from Singapore stopping at Koh Samui (Thailand), Laem Chabang (Thailand), Sihanoukville (Cambodia), Phu My (Vietnam), Da nang (Vietnam) and returning to Singapore. This was a great relaxing way to spend Xmas and New Year as well as visiting some new locations and some well known ones.

To feel secure while traveling or living abroad, I make sure to have health insurance. SafetyWing’s Essential plan gives me coverage for medical emergencies and travel mishaps, with options for adventure sports and electronics theft. If I want more comprehensive protection, their Complete plan covers routine medical care, mental health support, and maternity benefits—worldwide, including my home country—on top of everything in the Essential plan.
The city of Phu My in Vietnam is home to deep water ports of Cái Mép–Thị Vải replacing Saigon Port when the latter relocated here. It is a very industrialised city but we found a beautiful church, Song Vinh Church, which was well worth a visit to admire the stunning Gothic style architecture. Song Vinh Church was initiated in 2011 and completed after more than 11 years of construction. It not only serves as a religious center for the local Catholic community but also attracts a large number of visitors every weekend and during Christmas celebrations.
