Xmas Cruise 2024 – Nathon, Koh Samui, Thailand

To celebrate Xmas and New Year at the end of 2024 we took a short 13 day cruise on Holland America’s ms Noordam from Singapore stopping at Koh Samui (Thailand), Laem Chabang (Thailand), Sihanoukville (Cambodia), Phu My (Vietnam), Da nang (Vietnam) and returning to Singapore. This was a great relaxing way to spend Xmas and New Year as well as visiting some new locations and some well known ones.

To feel secure while traveling or living abroad, I make sure to have health insurance. SafetyWing’s Essential plan gives me coverage for medical emergencies and travel mishaps, with options for adventure sports and electronics theft. If I want more comprehensive protection, their Complete plan covers routine medical care, mental health support, and maternity benefits—worldwide, including my home country—on top of everything in the Essential plan.

Our first port of call was Nathon on the island of Koh Samui, Thailand. This was a tender transfer so we had to take the tender to the small pier. Nathon is the capital of Koh Samui and is a small laid back town with a small fishing port, a few streets of shops and numerous small cafes and restaurants. We walked through the small streets where we saw some colourful wall murals and then headed to the beautiful colourful Hai Lam Shrine which dates back to 1862. This Chinese shrine has a very large statue of Guan Yu.
