Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa

Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa is the iconic landmark overlooking the city and is a major tourist attraction. You can take a short cable car ride to the top or if you are feeling more energetic can hike up.

Over 20 years ago we visited Cape Town but were unable to go up Table Mountain as the cable car was suspended due to weather. So on this occasion we were determined to make it to the top. It was a glorious day with bright blue skies when we headed up to the cable car station with our pre-purchased tickets for the cable car ride. On arrival we noted a long line of people queing and we though that must be for the people who needed to buy a ticket …. think again … this was the queue for the pre-purchased tickets and it snaked down from the cable car station and all along the road. In all we were in the queue for over 3 hours until we eventually boarded the cable car for the 5 minute ride to the top.

The view from the top however was spectacular and we spent some time wandering along the flat top by the cliff edge taking photographs.
