We took a cruise on Silver Seas “Silver Spirit” in October/November 2024 departing from Fusina, Port for Venice (Italy) and visiting Trieste (Italy), Ravenna (Italy), Opatija (Croatia), Split (Croatia), Dubrovnik (Croatia), Bari (Italy), Corfu (Greece), Heraklion (Greece), Santorini (Greece) and finally docking in Athens (Greece).

Split is the second-largest city in Croatia and the largest city in the Dalmatia region. It is situated on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea, centred around the Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace, which was built in the 4th century AD. The city has a rich history that spans over 1,700 years, and its historical core is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The historic centre of Split is a maze of narrow streets, ancient buildings, and charming squares. The Diocletian’s Palace is the heart of Split and one of the most impressive Roman monuments in the world. It was built as a retirement residence for the Roman Emperor Diocletian and today forms about half of the old town of Split. The palace is a living monument, with its walls housing numerous shops, cafes, and homes.

We made a return visit to the Konoba Varoš Restaurant which we had been to many years ago and met up with the same family running the restaurant.

Trogir
Just up the coast from Split is Trogir, a historic town and harbour on the Adriatic coast. It is situated on a small island between the mainland and the island of Čiovo. Known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, Trogir is often referred to as a “museum town” and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
