Around the banks of the Douro River in the historic centre of Porto is the iconic area known as Ribeira. This is one of Porto’s most beautiful and liveliest districts in the historic centre and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Walking over the Dom Luis I Bridge and along the riverfront you get great views of the beautiful architecture of the buildings along the river and all the old warehouses where the port was stored. Here you will also be able to see many of the old boats used to transport the port from the wineries in the upper Douro River down to the warehouses.
