Best 9 of 2023

It’s always tough to choose your best 9 photos over a year and although you can use various “best9” apps on Instagram to identify your most popular photos this is sometime not really representative of what you personally feel are the “best” photos. So here I have chosen my most favourite photographs taken over this year of 2023. My travel was fairly limited with trips to Japan, Taiwan, Bali, Portugal, Spain and USA so these photos are chosen from some of those trips.

After a brief trip to Houston, USA I stopped over in Japan for 4 days to enjoy the cool Autumn air, the beautiful Autumn colours and of course the stunning food. Naritasan Park in Narita was a great visit with some stunning vivid Autumn colours and the magnificent Great Pagoda of Peace.
In September I did a road trip around Portugal and Spain and just over the border into Spain I stopped at Monterrei where there was a wonderful old castle and this fascinating old fort, Forte da Atalaia, on a strategic location on the hillside.
A trip to Bali in February brought me back to a favourite location of Ubud and a walk through the rice fields known as the Sweet Orange Rice Field Walk. I came across a group of locals taking a rest after working in the rice paddies and took the opportunity to chat with them and grab a few photos.
In February I did a wonderful walk along the old postal route between Kyoto and Tokyo in Japan staying in small tea houses along the way. This is a small tea house we stopped at for some refreshments juts outside O-Tsumago.
During the road trip around Portugal and Spain I stopped at this beautiful seaside town of Praia da Costa Nova in Portugal with a beautiful long beach and some dramatic waves.
Walking around Porto in Portugal was a real treat with some incredible old architecture. This stunning church known as Capela of Souls, Capela das Almas, Santa Catarina had beautiful blue tiles all over the external walls of the church.
You cannot visit Lisbon in Spain without a photograph of the iconic trams which run along the steep cobbled streets.
The small fishing village of Zhangbin near Keelung in Taiwan has some beautiful and colourful houses along the side of the port creating a stunning reflection.
Relaxation time at the stunning Pangkor Laut Resort located on the west coast of Malaysia.
