Abercorn Parish Church

Abercorn Parish Church lies just south of South Queensferry in Scotland. The site of Abercorn Parish Church has been sacred ground since St Ninian visited during a mission to the Picts in the late 400s. Before long his followers had established a church here, perhaps the earliest in this part of Scotland.

When we visited the church was locked but the graveyard around the church is very interesting to look around with many very old gravestones.

The church and graveyard is also close to Midhope Castle (Lallybroch) where at the time of our visit they were actively filming Series 7 of Outlander – I realised this when I tried to park in a field wher many cars were parked and was told by a security guy that this was a private parking site for the Outlander crew. Taking a walk from the church to the coast we also came across a number of film crews and support crews setting up locations.

Abercorn Church and Graveyard is one of several Outlander locations in the surrounding locality. Barely a mile south is Midhope Castle, and the much used Hopetoun House is an equal distance to the east. Blackness Castle, used as Fort William in Season 1, is also nearby, less than 5 miles away.
