Corner Brook, Newfoundland

After 2 days at sea in the Gulf of Lawrence avoiding Hurricane Dorian we arrived early in the morning into Corner Brook. Corner Brook is a city located on the west coast of the island of Newfoundland in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

As we sailed in towards the port we got some beautiful views of Newfoundland with high mountains and waterfalls.

Located on the Bay of Islands at the mouth of the Humber River, the city is the second-largest population centre in the province behind St. John’s, and smallest of three cities behind St. John’s and Mount Pearl. As such, Corner Brook functions as a service centre for western and northern Newfoundland. It is located on the same latitude as Gaspé, Quebec, a city of similar size and landscape on the other side of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Corner Brook is the most northern city in Atlantic Canada.

We took a pleasant walk from the centre of the town past the Glynmill Inn and round the Glynmill Pond.

We followed some small walking trails following the river and then into the forest. After a few days at sea it was good to feel some fresh air and do some walking again.

We took a shortcut over the local golf course and then back down to the Glynmill Pond again, stopping at the Glynmill Inn for some lunch.

After lunch we walked back into the small town and then boarded our ship again ready for our departure to Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island.

As we left the port we got a good view of the large pulp and paper mill which dominated the town.
