Seattle

In March 2002 I travelled to Seattle to attend my best friend’s wedding. After a long flight from Dubai via London I arrived in Seattle and the next day managed to get out and take a look at the city. It was St Patricks Day so there were lively processions along the streets to celebrate.

A visit to the famous Pike Place Market was next up where there was a huge selection of seafood on show with fabulous looking salmon, prawns, Dungeness crab and of course Alaskan king crab.

Very close to Pike Place Market I visited the very first Starbuck cafe in the world – a rather unassuming and small cafe.

This is the famous Athenian Restaurant where Tom Hanks sat in the movie Sleepless in Seattle.

A visit to the Space Needle was a must and from the top we got some fantastic panoramic views over the city ….. and a rather nice Bloody Mary!

The Space Needle is an observation tower in Seattle, Washington, United States. It is a landmark of the Pacific Northwest and an icon of Seattle. It was built in the Seattle Center for the 1962 World’s Fair, which drew over 2.3 million visitors. Nearly 20,000 people a day used its elevators during the event.

We also had the chance to visit the rather strange Historic Triangle Pub. At just over 500 sq ft, the Triangle Pub is one of Seattle’s smallest bars.
