We took a cruise on Silver Seas “Silver Spirit” in October/November 2024 departing from Fusina, Port for Venice (Italy) and visiting Trieste (Italy), Ravenna (Italy), Opatija (Croatia), Split (Croatia), Dubrovnik (Croatia), Bari (Italy), Corfu (Greece), Heraklion (Greece), Santorini (Greece) and finally docking in Athens (Greece).

Heraklion (or Iraklion) is the largest city and capital of the Greek island of Crete. It is a vibrant urban center with a rich history, stunning architecture, and a lively cultural scene. Heraklion is steeped in history, dating back to the Minoan civilization. It is near the ancient palace of Knossos, one of Europe’s oldest cities and a major archaeological site. The city has been influenced by various civilisations, including the Venetians and Ottomans, whose legacies are visible in its architecture and culture.
Heraklion is a bustling city with a mix of traditional and modern elements. It offers a lively atmosphere with cafes, tavernas, and markets. The city is known for its Cretan cuisine, featuring dishes like dakos, lamb with stamnagathi, and fresh seafood. The city is surrounded by stunning landscapes, including beaches, mountains, and vineyards. Nearby attractions include the Dikteon Cave (birthplace of Zeus) and the scenic Amari Valley. Heraklion is a gateway to exploring Crete’s rich history, natural beauty, and vibrant culture, making it a popular destination for travelers.
