Beef Noodle Soup

After all the excess of Xmas Day lunch what better way to get back to basics than a visit to a local beef noodle soup restaurant in Chiang Mai. This small restaurant on Charoen Muang Road caught our attention with its muted colours, textured walls and some very tasteful photographs on the walls.

There was a large range of various types of beef you could order along with the usual beef balls and bean sprout vegetables. A large boiling pot was placed on our table over hot charcoal and all the meats and vegetables then served. We then added the meats and vegetables as we required and ate this along with some local Thai rice noodles. The soup mixture was a rich beef soup although slightly sweet as the Thais tend to add sugar to many of their dishes.

As a photographer I am always attracted by textures and colours and the walls of the restaurant were wonderful with muted colours and textures which inspired me to start capturing some images. The walls also had many framed photographs which had been done very well again adding to the atmosphere of the place. They also had a good coffee machine and were serving a variety of coffees which was surprising in a restaurant like this.

All the photographs were captured with a Canon 5D Mk III camera with the small 40mm Canon pancake lens which I regard very highly and is great to carry around due to it’s really small size. The images were post-processed initially in Aperture then stylized using Perfect Effects 9 from OnOne Software to accentuate the textures a little more.
